Six years ago today, I spun up shrike.club for the first time. Now, we have about 150 monthly users, and enough financial support monthly (typically) to cover the operational costs.
Shrike has replaced the other big posting sites for me as the recipient of my random thoughts and the source of a great deal of joy in my life. I really appreciate all of the members of the site AND everyone in the broader Fediverse community who connects with Shrike users and brings so much joy and fun to the timeline.
Though much of the utopian spirit of open source software feels diminished in this modern age of computer toucher fascism, I think the fediverse represents a glowing ember of hope that anyone really can start their own little communities and, critically, that those communities can interact with each other instead of being walled gardens. Many of my friends and acquaintances have started their own instances or moved around between them, and I think that's so great.
If you've ever posted on Shrike, interacted with a user on the site, or just enjoyed one of my or other users' posts on the wbesite, thank you. I fully intend to run this service as long as possible. Here's to another 6 years!
